Chris Ward and Jeffrey Lukasik join the battle for top honours at ASP PRIME Nike Lowers Pro
America’s Chris Ward continued to exhibit a promising form at the renowned surf spot of Lower Trestles in San Clemente, California, on Tuesday morning, May 1, with a convincing win in Round of 98 (Round 2) at the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP)

The win carried him through into the third round (Round of 96) of the event, adding him to the main event line-up. America’s Jeffrey Lukasik successfully advanced through into the next round as well after managing to get his hands on the runner-up position.
The primary event site saw a lot of crowd coming in on the opening day of the latest ASP PRIME event, looking to avail the opportunity of the catching the exciting surfing talent in action. The competition field was a large one, comprising of both local
as well as international talent. The 2012 APS World Tour competitors were also in contention for the event title at Lowers Trestles, looking to warm up before heading to Brazil for the third stop of the elite event.
The sole heat of Round 2 saw Ward, Lukasik, Andrew Doheny and Jacob Davis face-off in a four-man battle to get their hands on the two spots that were available in the main competition line-up.
Equally determined to get themselves through into the next round, all four surfers pushed themselves real hard during the course of the heat.
Ward, who had gotten off to an ideal start with a Round 1 win, continued to look in control as he navigated his way through the clean two-to-four foot waves that were breaking at the main event site.
Pulling off a series of fast turns on a couple of relatively juicy waves, Ward finished with a heat-total of 12.80 points. The score held up until the end to earn him top honours and thus take him through into the next round.
Lukasik was also successful in getting into the next round after finishing with a two-wave total of 10.44 points.
Both Doheny and Davis were forced to make a premature exit from the competition after finishing with an identical heat-total of 10.00 points, which put them in third and fourth positions respectively on the basis of their single-wave score.
