Chris Watts concerned over corruption in county cricket – Cricket News Update
Chris Watts, Chief of the newly-established Anti-Corruption unit of England and Wales Cricket Board, has expressed grave concerns over the covert corruption in English County Cricket, claiming that domestic players are more prone to getting involved in unfair
practices.
The ECB has set up the Anti-Corruption wing in order to stamp out spot-fixing and match-fixing from the cricketing circles of the country. This move is a follow-up of the Pakistani trio’s trial and conviction for the gruesome spot-fixing scandal that erupted
in English territory last year.

Talking to the media today, Watts said, “That's possibly where the threat may lie at the moment. From what I know, I would suggest that [fixing] is probably around the domestic game. That's where some of the risks are, more so than the international arena.
International players are under far more scrutiny than players in the domestic game. That's what would lead me to form that view."
Watts is of the view that cricket corruption cannot be contained unless domestic players are brought under keen scrutiny. Moreover, he wants the families and friends of the players to be vigilant and cooperative to fight this problem which is a big threat
to the standard and status of the game.
