Chris Weidman: Anderson Silva’s possible future opponent or not? – UFC Special
Chris Weidman has started to get crucial votes that might force Anderson Silva camp to change their decision. Weidman, who since his epic win over Mark Munoz is rigorously pursuing Silva, is being thumbed down again and again by Silva’s staff as the possible
future opponent and above all title contender.
Despite the somewhat de-motivating behaviour exhibited by Silva camp, Chris has just not yet decided to forfeit the pursuit rather has altogether changed his attitude. Weidman recently bashed Anderson Silva and his camp for deliberately ignoring him.
Chris went a step ahead and even criticised the names put forth by Silva, commenting that if Silva feels he is a complete brawler than why not take on Jon Jones or him. Before that, unfortunately, Chris has been dubbed as joke by one of Silva’s managers.
Apart from the entire aforementioned fussy and agitated scenario there are some people who have started to pop out in an attempt to support Chris’ nomination as at least the next opponent for Anderson Silva.
Matt Serra, the former UFC welterweight champion and one of the two lucky guys who were able to pin Georges St. Pierre, believes that Chris has what it takes to nail the Spider.
Serra who has been in a total of 18 mixed martial art bouts, boasting 11 wins, is famous for having a keen eye that can judge talent out of any individual. Such a guy, a veteran and a former champion is putting his trust and vote in Weidman’s favour.
Matt while sharing his thoughts commented that a long time ago when he was preparing for one of his bouts he saw a young lad training hard. Serra was of the view that a look at the young man’s skills, talent, power and everything else made him utter that
he is going to be the next champion.
Serra said that young man was Chris, adding that people believe he is calling out Silva just to get a fight or a hefty pay check. Matt denied such assumptions commenting that Chris means business, adding that he believes that the Baldwin lad will become
a champion.
The former world champion stated, “When he’s up here saying he wants Anderson Silva, he’s not doing it for just a paycheck. He’s doing it because he truly believes he can beat and finish Anderson Silva. He has the same approach to sparring, to rolling. He
wants to – you want to spar with this guy, this guy’s tough – he wants to feel it. I believe he will be champion.”
Well, at least now there is someone who has in detail shed some light on the fact as to why Chris should take on Anderson. Otherwise, everyone was just basing their predictions and hypothecations on Chris’ epic current win over Mark Munoz.
Chris, 28, who has just been in a total of nine bouts, must understand that Silva is the owner of a 16-bout win streak in UFC for a reason. No matter how much talent Weidman possesses, how much intense or freaky his submission tactics are, Chris still needs
to take one or two belligerents before colliding the kingpin of the division.
To be honest, Weidman should go for a bout with Chael Sonnen. Chael is available at the moment and above all a bout with the world number 2 middleweight will further strengthen his position in the title contention scenario.
Matt’s analysis about the New York lad might be correct but still Chris does not possess the experience requisite to take on a man like Silva who always finds a way to win amidst grave scenarios.
Therefore, Chris should at least wait for a fight or two and after nailing names like Michael Bisping or Chael Sonnen he must then stand in front of the media and call out the Spider aloud. For now the submission specialist must fortify his impressive win
streak by collecting wins over hefty names.
