Chris Weidman: I can take down Anderson Silva and make him submit – UFC News
Chris Weidman, the young American mixed martial artist, who has already brought an earthquake in UFC’s middleweight division, recently shook the UFC universe one more time by saying that he has the ability to take down Anderson Silva and make him submit,
adding that he will follow the blue prints of Chael Sonnen.
Chris collected an impressive second-round technical knockout win over UFC’s number three middleweight Mark Munoz. The duo met at the headline event at UFC on Fuel TV 4 which was televised live on July 11, 2012.
The win was undoubtedly a shocking one and has completely rattled the UFC’s hefty middleweight division. After the impressive win, Chris while sharing his thoughts made another shocking statement.
Weidman commented that he has the skills to take down Anderson Silva, the current UFC middleweight champion, and grab a win over him via submission. The claim is definitely somewhat unthinkable one but still it has brought the ‘All American’ Chris in the
limelight.
Chris stated, “I've got the length with Anderson Silva, so he's not going to be able to play on the outside much with me. If he comes in, my takedowns are pretty good. I'll take him down. I think, I really do believe, that I could submit him and finish him.
I really think I can.”
With this statement, Chris has grabbed media’s due attention who is now dubbing the young lad as the future number one contender and opponent of the ‘Spider’ Silva. The reason for this is simple.
Before Chris’ bout with Mark, everyone unanimously dubbed Mark as the possible next opponent as he was on a win streak and above all was considered as the third best middleweight in UFC.
After the stunning performance, even Dana White has become a big fan of Chris and dubbed his performance as ‘a total destruction of the number three middleweight’. During the media interaction, Chris while putting forth his thoughts regarding Silva as an
opponent, commented that he has seen Chael take down Silva several times, adding that he will also follow the same game plan.
Chris stated, “Anderson Silva has been through 15 guys. All those 15 guys tried to take him down, hold him down, tried to submit him. It's not going to be easy. Chael Sonnen is that good, but he was able to get him down in every fight and put him in that
position. I'm going to follow that blueprint.”
Dana White after listening to the 28-year-old’s bold talk and while replying to UFC fans and prediction-makers has, at the moment, thumbed down any chances of Chris taking on Anderson. However, the foundation has been laid and after one or two high-profile
bouts Chris will have just one man left to nail – Anderson Silva.
