Chris Weidman: I want to stay busy and get better – UFC News
Along with Michael Bisping and Brian Stann, Chris Weidman was pitching in the scene too, to get a title shot at middleweight champion Anderson Silva. Unfortunately, the American mixed martial artist was disappointed when the UFC president Dana White revealed
there are no chances for Weidman to take on Silva.
In an interview last week, White revealed that Anderson Silva would not fight until 2013. Moreover, White iterated that he is looking forward to set up a match between Anderson Silva and Georges St-Pierre, two of the best fighters in the organisation.
While White shattered dreams of all three young fighters, Michael Bisping, Brian Stann and Chris Weidman, the former two are still trying their best to get it. However, Weidman has given up on his dream and has moved on.
As of now, the American is scheduled by UFC to fight Tim Boetsch at UFC 155 on December 29 in Las Vegas.
“I think I’m the number-one contender in the division, but with Anderson not fighting for the rest of 2012, I want to stay busy and keep getting better,” asserted Weidman.
“I think I’m the best middleweight in the world and I’m going to prove it against another top contender.”
It should be noted here that Michael Bisping and Brian Stann will be facing each other at UFC 152. According to Bisping, he has been offered a shot at Silva by UFC officials, only if he defeats his opponent in a dominant manner.
On the other hand, Chris Weidman believes Bisping has not maintained his brand in a way that he would be favoured by fans for a fight against Silva. Surprisingly, Bisping thinks the same for Weidman, recalling that Weidman has no major victory in his portfolio.
While all these three fighters are trying their best to get the shot, Dana White has some other plans. For White, it is time to create some super-fights and he is looking forward to put Silva and St-Pierre in the ring for a vicious battle of the best.
Similarly, White is even looking forward to a fight between light heavyweight champion Jon Jones and middleweight champion Anderson Silva.
