Chris Weidman challenges Michael Bisping’s pressure taking capabilities – UFC News
While President of UFC Dana White thinks Michael Bisping is good enough to lock horns with UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva, unbeaten UFC fighter Chris Weidman believes Bisping lacks the character of a champion.
“I know he is good and talented and he has faced some good guys but every time he has faced a top ten guy he has lost,” said Weidman in his recent interview with Fighters Only. He added, “Like with the Chael Sonnen fight he did awesome and a lot of people
thought he could have won but he didn't find the way to win.”
“And I am not knocking him - I think he's a great fighter, I really do - but I question his mentality against top guys when the pressure is on. Which is pretty much what everyone says about him.”
“He has had chances to fight for the title twice now and he doesn't come through when the pressure is on.”
It should be noted here that Weidman was expecting to face Anderson Silva as his next opponent but thing did not work out for him. Although many folks consider Brian Stann an easy foe for Bisping, Weidman is wondering whether Bisping will be able to survive
the pressure.
There are also chances of Bisping taking on Weidman, if the Briton is able to defeat Stann.
In an interview yesterday, Bisping revealed he has been promised by UFC officials a fight against Anderson Silva after defeating Weidman. Bisping added that the promise was a verbal one and not a written one, which means nothing is for sure yet.
On the other hand, President of UFC Dana White believes Michael Bisping is highly underrated and this might be his chance to shine, if he is able to beat Stann. White believes Bisping has what it takes to stand in the cage against Anderson Silva.
For now, Bisping is excited to face Stann at UFC 152 to get a title shot over Silva. The Briton has been striving hard for the last few years to face the champion but he never got successful, especially with Chael Sonnen in his way.
