Chris Weidman feels Anderson Silva is ignoring him – UFC News
Although middleweight contender Chris Weidman admits the fact that he cannot beat champion Anderson Silva, he still feels the Brazilian fighter is avoiding him. What Weidman is unable to understand is why exactly Silva is overlooking him? In a recent interview
with MMAJunkie.com, Weidman spoke about the possibility of facing Anderson Silva.
Weidman was present in Rio de Janeiro to witness the middleweight champion knockout ‘The American Psycho’ Stephan Bonnar at UFC 153. Weidman did admit that he was impressed by Silva’s performance.
“I just feel like some way or another, Anderson Silva is not fighting me,” Weidman said while talking to MMAJunkie.com. “I honestly don't feel like it's going to happen.”
Weidman currently stands 9 wins and 0 losses in MMA, and 5 wins and 0 losses in UFC. On the other hand, Silva has now escalated to 33 wins and 4 losses in MMA, and 16 wins and 0 losses in the UFC.
Recently, Silva asserted that a fight against Weidman is possible but the Brazilian champion is not yet in the mood to let Weidman blow his career.
“I thought it was the perfect opportunity after the Munoz fight. He said he wanted to fight three months after the Chael Sonnen fight, and it made perfect sense to do it right then. There was no reason not to. He couldn't come up with an excuse. UFC was
asking him to fight me, non-stop, and he put them off and put them off and put them off and then said he doesn't want to fight until 2013,” said Weidman.
For now, Weidman is trying his level best to score a title shot at Silva but it seems like he will not anytime soon. The ‘Spider’ has already revealed that his next match will probably be against welterweight titlist Georges St-Pierre.
It should be noted here that several young mixed martial artists in the division are eyeing Silva’s crown. Michael Bisping, Chris Weidman and Brian Stann are some of the top contenders. All three of them want a title shot but Silva, for some reason, wants
to go for a super-fight against GSP.
