Chris Weidman grabs knockout win over Mark Munoz at UFC on Fuel TV 4 – UFC News
Chris Weidman, the rising American mixed martial artist, yet again stunned UFC’s middleweight division by defending his undefeated streak against Mark Munoz. He collected an impressive win in the second round of the three-round bout held on July 11, 2012.
Weidman astonished the whole UFC universe by totally dominating Munoz, who was on a four-bout win streak and was making a comeback after recuperating from a serious elbow injury.
Right from the start, the octagon witnessed Chris setting the pace of the bout. Mark was nowhere to be found, matching the surging American middleweight.
Mark’s lofty claims and dreams of taking on Anderson Silva were thrashed by the elbows and punches of Chris, who was coming off an eight-bout undefeated streak. Even some of the odd-makers placed their votes in favour of Mark, but the 34-year-old was unable
to backup their trust and lost the bout in sheer humiliation.
Chris, also known as ‘The All American’, started things off immediately without losing even a split second, taking Munoz down on the octagon mat in the very first round. Mark, who possessed a pretty impressive wrestling and grappling career in college days,
was unable to break the 28-year-old’s grip and the round ended with the duo on the mat and Chris holding Mark tightly.
The second round was the replication of the first one, as Chris again moved in and attempted another successful take down by grabbing the ‘Filipino Wrecking Machine’ in his tight grip.
This time Mark was able to break the hold, standing up just to realise that he has outclassed Chris’ strength as well. Weidman swiftly moved in and connected a huge elbow on Munoz’s forehead.
The strike was lethal and Mark fell on the ground. Chris optimally capitalised the opening and moved in with a barrage of fists battering Munoz’s head. The referee was left with no choice but to intervene and halt the bout denoting it as a technical knockout
at one minute and 37 seconds.
After the impressive rather intimidating win over a somewhat veteran Mark, Chris blatantly demanded that he wants to collide with the ‘Spider’ Anderson Silva. Weidman stated, “I want Anderson Silva. Give me a full training camp and a shot at Anderson Silva.
Give me a shot at Anderson Silva, please.”
While sharing his game plan, Chris commented, “I was playing with the elbows. I have the reach for it. Jon Jones showed the blueprint on how to throw it.”
Munoz, after the dismal loss just stated, “He caught me with that elbow. It happens sometimes. He's a great competitor. He landed that elbow pretty good. I'll be back. I'll be back.”
With this win, Chris has improved his resume to nine wins in a total of nine bouts whereas Mark has collected his career’s third loss.
