Chris Weidman knows he can defeat Anderson Silva – UFC News
American fighter Chris Weidman he is the only person who can end middleweight champion Anderson Silva’s undefeated reign. Weidman, who is currently out of the picture due to his injury, believes he is a threat to Silva, which is the main reason why Silva’s
camp is avoiding him.
“It's a business, and I understand what they're doing,” said Weidman in an interview to Sherdog. “So, I don't take it personal. It's just that I put a lot of work in, and my goal is to be champion, and I know I can beat Anderson Silva, and I did enough work
to get that fight.”
Weidman and Briton fighter Michael Bisping were in line to challenge Anderson Silva. However, Weidman suffered an injury due to which he had to back out of the list. Now, it is more likely Bisping who will get the title shot, since he is close to it.
“If I get on top of him, like Chael Sonnen was on top of him, I really believe in myself. I really think I'm going to finish the fight. I wouldn't do it like Chael Sonnen. Chael Sonnen did a great job in both of his fights,” Weidman added.
According to the American mixed martial artist, he has all the tools to defeat Silva. Weidman believes he is young and of the same size as Silva. However, Weidman asserts that he has a longer reach which make it easier for him to keep Silva at bay. In addition,
Weidman believes he is a better wrestler and is better than Silva at Jujitsu.
Weidman did admire Silva’s stand up, saying that the Brazilian is great at it. However, Weidman believes his reflexes are better which will make it easier for him to counter Silva’s attack.
For now, there is no news as to who will the middleweight champion fight next. The number one contender Michael Bisping is scheduled to fight The Phenom Vitor Belfort next year. If Belfort wins, he will be next in line to face Silva.
Weidman cannot wait for the day he will get his hands on Silva, not only will it be a championship fight but an opportunity for Weidman to be the first one to defeat Silva.
