Chris Weidman unleashed his fury on Anderson Silva – UFC News
UFC fighter Chris Weidman is confident that he can take on Anderson Silva, the current UFC middleweight champion. Retaliating to Silva’s recent comments regarding his potential, Weidman came up saying that he expects the same level of respect from Silva
that he has for him.
“I have nothing but respect for Anderson Silva, and I would expect him to want to fight the best guy and the guy who's going to give him the toughest challenge,” said Weidman in his recent interview.
“The guy's a champion of 185 [pounds], he should be fighting the contenders. You don't call out guys that aren't going to be able to fight forever and guys that are lighter than you. Why don't you call out Jon Jones? That makes sense, I'm sure a lot of people
would watch, I'd love to watch too. If you're not going to fight him, fight me, I'm ready to go,” he added.
It seems like Weidman is on fire, picking up fights with almost every fighter in his division. Previously, Weidman irked Brit fighter Michael Bisping by calling him a fighter who cannot withstand pressure. Bisping retaliated saying Weidman is a ‘Wiesel’
who hardly knows what he is capable of.
For now, the war of words between Bisping and Weidman is growing, and at the same time Weidman is trying to involve Silva in it as well. Probably, Weidman is following Chael Sonnen’s footsteps, who gained enormous popularity by verbally assaulting Anderson
Silva. Sonnen did it so much that Silva eventually came up talking trash himself, something the Brazilian Spider is not used to of doing.
Silva is currently looking forward to a match against St. Georges, whereas he is being eyed for a match by Bisping and Weidman.
The entire situation is a chaos right now. Even Dana White is unsure of Silva’s next opponent, as the Spider is way too good for most of the fighters in his division. White has already indicated a possibility of Bisping fighting Silva only if the Brit is
able to defeat Brian Stann at UFC 152. On the other hand, Weidman is awaiting his turn.
