Chris Wilson wins Price Cutter Charity Championship in the playoff
In the span of a few days in Missouri, Chris Wilson's summer went from missed cuts to memorable.
Coming off of three straight tournaments in which he failed to advance to the weekend play, the Ohio resident won the Price Cutter Charity Championship with a birdie on the first extra hole in the playoff on Sunday.
Before visiting the Highland Springs Country Club, he played 13 Web.com Tour events and missed the cut in 11 of them. Moreover, his best finish of the season came in the Panama Claro Championship where he tied for the 25th position.
This time, he looked completely different and shocked everyone on and off the course who were following the tournament.
After earning a cheque of $112,500 with this victory, he jumped to the 23rd place in the Web.com Tour money list. Previously, he was listed at the 165th spot.
According to him, his visit to the sports psychologist Bob Rotella really paid him off this week, as he sorted out many things after that meeting.
"We simplified a lot of things," said the Tour's 11th first-time winner in 17 events. "We changed my approach to putting and that's helped to eliminate a lot of the distractions I was having".
Moreover, his game on the greens was amazing, considering the fact that he was ranked 132nd out of 136 players in putting before the start of the tournament. At the end of the event, he was tied for the eighth position in the same category.
"I've been close the past couple weeks," he said while maintaining a tight grip on his first trophy of any kind since a mini-tour win in 2008. "When you have confidence in your putter it just frees up every other aspect of your game".
Wilson parred each of the holes on the front nine before making a rapid change in his pace on the back nine of the course. He opened the outward nine with a birdie on the 10th hole, followed by a stunning eagle on the very next hole.
Another birdie on the 14th hole took him even closer to the lead and the 18th hole saw him settle for the clubhouse with a 15-foot birdie putt.
The overnight leader Scott Harrington also joined him later on top of the leaderboard. However, he bogeyed the first extra hole in the playoff and lost the challenge in the end.
