Chris Woakes to miss start of 2012 county season – Cricket News Update
There will be no Chris Woakes for Warwickshire for the first two months of the 2012 County season as the all-rounder has injured his ankle ligament and is likely to stay out of action for the next six to eight weeks.
The 23-year-old all-rounder had sustained the injury during Warwickshire’s pre-season tour to Barbados, where the Bears participated in the Banks Barbados Cup Final tournament. The injury had come during the final of the tournament played at the Kensington
Oval, Bridgetown as Woakes dived to stop the ball but found his studs stuck in the ground twisting his ankle.
Initially it was feared that the all-rounder had broken his ankle but later a detailed examination of the injured ankle confirmed that it was just a damaged ligament, which usually takes six to eight weeks to recover completely. He is scheduled to see a
specialist soon to assess the length of his recovery time.
The injury is likely to keep him out of the initial four rounds of the County Championship Division One and also from the opening game of Clydesdale Bank 40.
The 23-year-old cricketer has emerged as a key all-rounder for Bears in the recent seasons and his injury at the start of the season could be a huge blow to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Warwickshire-c862’s Championship hopes. In the 2011 County Championship, Woakes averaged 48.25 with the
bat and claimed 56 first-class wickets at an impressive bowling average of 21.78, as the county finished runners up in the Division One.
The injury could also be a setback to Woakes international career. Since debuting in the one-day formats of international cricket in January last year, the 23-year-old right-handed batsman has played in four One Day Internationals and three T20 Internationals
and was hopeful of pressing his claims for a Test call-up with an impressive performance in the 2012 County Championship Division One.
Good news for the Bears is that former http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Somerset-c843
