Chris Wood leads after second round of Iberdrola Open
English golfer, Chris Wood is leading the Iberdrola Open after posting a 5-under par 65 in the second round. In a strong position now, Wood is doing very well in this tournament especially after posting a 67 in the opening round. The player is ahead of compatriot
Matthew Nixon and Northern Irishman Darren Clarke by three strokes.
Wood made six birdies and one bogey in the second round as he looked to lead the standings. The 23-year-old said that one just has to keep it in play and think your way around a bit more. He was surely happy with the way he played and is looking forward
to maintaining his lead in the remaining two rounds. The talented player has a long list of top ten finishes but no win till now.
“It will happen - I just need to keep putting myself in these positions, The more that I can do that then the more chances I will have to win,” said Wood.“It suits me this course. It can be tricky and you have to think your way round which is how I like
to play golf - to try and be aggressive when I can and conservative when I have to. It is not a bombers course and it is only going to play shorter as the week goes on.”
The player started off really well as he birdied his first hole. Playing strategically, the Britt made another birdie on the fourth hole and yet another one on the eight hole. Making the turn at three under par,Wood carded back to back birdies on hole number
eleven and twelve. Carding another birdie on the fourteenth hole, the leader made his only bogey of the day on hole number sixteen. The opening round played by Wood consisted of four birdies and one bogey.
The first round leader Gregory Bourdy didn’t do so well in the second round and posted a seven over par 77. All in all, with just two rounds remaining, the Iberdola Open is getting really interesting to follow.
