Chris Young surrenders three home runs as New York Mets blanked 0-3 by Milwaukee Brewers - MLB
Starter Chris Young surrenders three home-runs as the New York Mets are shut-out by the Milwaukee Brewers 0-3 at Miller Park, Milwaukee, Wisconsin on September 16, 2012 in the last match of the three match series.
Mets’ batters were silent all through the match. The fact they managed just two hits on Sunday shows that they were clueless in the whole game.
The miserable performance of their offence reflects that their slump has sunk to the lowest ebb.
Earlier their offence was struggling but somehow a couple of runs were being put on the scoreboard. Right now it has almost become unresponsive to whatever the team needs.
Even in the games which provide New York an opportunity to win, failure by the batters become a hurdle and disallow them the victory.
Brewers banked on home-runs to earn a victory. They put starter Young under pressure by slamming massive hits off his throws. Young threw little more than six innings and leaked eight hits.
In the face of little run support from the offence, winning the game for Young was extremely difficult. He will be disappointed as with a loss on Sunday his record in the season worsens further.
Strong offence is a source of encouragement for the pitchers. Unfortunately Young did not have this luxury in the game.
Mets’ manager Terry Collins laments the offence while he speaks positively about the pitchers. He is of the view that two hits that they struck in the game can never be enough to challenge the opposition.
"He's a fly ball pitcher," manager Terry Collins said. "If you get enough of the ball here, it's going to get out. But he pitched well. He kept us in the game. Two hits isn't going to get us very far."
Catcher Josh Thole and centre fielder Andres Torres were two hitters that connected hits for the Mets.
The Mets are witnessing their winning percentage declining after every game. Currently the best they can do is gaining some momentum and enter Spring Training with renewed confidence. It will be interesting to see how they end the season and prepare for
the upcoming year.
