Chris Young’s hitting helps Arizona Diamondbacks defeat Chicago Cubs 6-4 – MLB Update
Centre-fielder Chris Young had a good day with the bat as he made two runs on two hits, including two RBIs to help the Arizona Diamondbacks defeat the Chicago Cubs 6-4 at Wrigley Field, Chicago on April 6.
Young managed to put in a brilliant performance for the Diamondbacks after an eight-game losing streak in the current season. He batted and fielded with incredible skill to improve the team’s performance in a game which provided a positive result.
After winning the game, Young said, “You just want to go out there and play good baseball and get the wins to back up your effort. It's completely worth it if you catch it, but if you drop it you'll be mad at yourself for even going after it.”
Young took a diving catch of Kosuke Fukudome on the extra-base hit because he was very familiar with the outfield of Wrigley Field. He also ran back to follow the fly ball of Tyler Colvin towards the out-field wall in the fourth inning.
Chris completed his third run on the fault of an out-fielder who gave a wide throw to the Cubs’ catcher Geovany Soto. However, Young posted a run on Kelly Johnson's double. The Diamondbacks’ manager Kirk Gibson felt that his players were under pressure so
he arranged the meeting before the game to reduce their tensions.
Miguel Montero struck his second home-run to add a leading run for the Diamondbacks in the eighth inning against the Cub’s relief pitcher John Grabow as Gerardo Parra posted a run on three hits. The Diamondback’s starting pitcher Armando Galarraga gave up
four runs on five hits in just over seven innings. J.J. Putz, who played as a closer, threw a perfect 9th inning for his second save.
Willie Bloomquist made a single with the co-operation of Parra and go-ahead off the inning by doubling to right-field. The Diamondbacks become the fastest team in franchise history in 8th inning stolen bases in the five games of the current season.
Speaking to reporters, Gibson said, “I just kind of reaffirmed some of the things we worked on [to] play the way they're capable of. Go out and play loose, play aggressively. Have fun playing the game, that's what we did.”
On the other side, Aramis Ramirez struck his second homer to left centre against Galarraga. Ryan Dempster offered four earned runs out of five on 10 hits over seven innings. He didn’t allow a walk to any batter and had seven strike-outs. Alfonso Soriano
also struck a home-run for the Cubs which were considered his third in this season. But the Diamondbacks took a lead in the fifth inning after breaking the tie of the Cubs and sealed the win in the end.
