Chris Young’s pitching helps New York Mets defeat Washington Nationals 5-2 – MLB Update
Chris Young put in a brilliant pitching performance as threw into the sixth inning as the New York Mets defeated Washington Nationals 5-2 at Digital Domain Park in Florida on March 15.
The Mets’ manager Terry Collins liked the workouts of Young and told that he was on the way to become the fourth starter when the season begins.
Young expects a huge upset because he will be the next player for the Mets’ alternation. After his fourth demonstration, Young seized the exhausted the Nationals to a run on Rick Ankiel's broken-bat towards infield and four strikes in just over five innings.
In general, Young has permitted three earned runs in 14 innings.
Chris had stolen a bases-loaded stuff in the second inning. The inning was extended when the Mets’ second baseman Luis Castillo protecting first base with a double play.
The Mets’ marked Young on January, 2011. He went 4-6 with an ERA of 5.21 in 2009 and he left out the seasons with San Diego Padres due to shoulder injury.
The Nationals’ catcher Ivan Rodriguez and third baseman Ryan Zimmerman were injured and left from the opening day roster. Rodriguez has a cramp in his left calf and Zimmerman has stiffness in his right groin, these All-Stars are projected to be absent four
to five days from the games.
At that instant, the Nationals’ manager Jim Riggleman said, "Hope it's only a couple of days." Oliver Perez was hoping for the spot in the team-squad as the Mets' experienced left-hander and pleased Young. He pitched against three left-handers, removing
two hitters with one walk.
Tom Gorzelanny, the Nationals’ starter came back from a deprived start in his spring season debut to go four innings, providing one run and two strikes. He hit out four batters, including Jose Reyes and Jason Bay.
David Wright made a single, double, walks, posted two runs and swapped a base. Bay just made a single while Wright moved into sixth inning with his progress. Francisco Rodriguez threw a strike-less ninth inning for a save.
The Mets will use up their next two days in Fort Myers and play with the Boston Red Sox and the Minnesota Twins. The Mets and the New York Yankees haven't come face-to-face in spring training season since 1996. Carlos Beltran who suffered a left knee tendinitis
is set to start again in the baseball workouts. He will remain in the squad to work out.
It will be interesting to see how the Mets can carry their confidence into their next match-up before the regular season begins. The Nationals will be looking to improve their performance and get their offence to support their pitching line-up.
