When I visit the preschool today, there are many caterpillars on the sidewalk as well as play area (even on the swings, slides, and play houses). Kids were playing with the caterpillars. Is this safe for the kids? Should I place my son there this Fall?

  1. Sounds like a lovely enviornment with lots of things (caterpillars being one) for the kids to take intrest in and learn about! As long as the staff can teach children to touch carefully and be observant and respectful of the caterpillars, it should be fine. The caterpillars will eventually make cocoons and turn into butterflies (or moths) and won`t be taking up the playground much longer.

  2. i advise that as long as he doesnt eat the caterpillar........ it will be a rewarding science experience to get out and and play with bugs.... caterpillars dont bite and are even safer than grasshoppers

all of the kindergartens in the area actually ordered caterpillars for the month of may.           sounds like there are lots of nice plants to attract butterflies............  must be a well planned school

  3. Come on, have you ever heard of a caterpillar viciously attacking a kid?
