Christel Boeljon enjoys an early lead in the first round of Allianz Ladies Slovak Open
Netherland’s Christel Boeljon, winner of this season’s Turkish Airlines Ladies Open on the Ladies European Tour (LET), launched her title bid for the Allianz Ladies Slovak Open, grabbing an early lead in the first round.
Boeljon made the turn with three dazzling birdies at the 14th, 15th and 18th, starting off from back nine and carded another at the par-four, 3rd hole. She is currently one shot clear of the fast approaching contenders, Lisa
Hall of England and Caroline Mason of Germany with three-under each.
Boeljon had a bogey-free round and looked in perfect form to grab the first round lead for the day as the match moved into the evening session at the picturesque Gray Bear Golf Club at Tále ski, golf and hotel resort. Boeljon is looking for her second win
on the tour after her maiden victory at the Turkish Airlines Open where she overtook England’s Florentyna Parker and Becky Brewerton at the difficult Antalya layout.
Hall, who started off with her front nine, carded two birdies at second and seventh but stumbled with a bogey on par-three, 5th hole, to stay behind for the moment. Germany’s Masson pulled in just one birdie on the eleventh when she tee-ed off
for the back nine and finished rest of the back nine with even-par. The German went ahead to card three birdies on the opening holes of the front nine but stumbled with a bogey on Par-three, 5th to fall back.
Zuzana Kamasova, the home grown talent, was even par till the last reports and was in contention for the 10th place after 15 holes. She fell in for a bogey on the opening hole of back nine but did well to consolidate her position with birdies
at 12th and 18th. After making the turn at front nine, she stumbled with yet another bogey on par-four, first and a fatal double bogey at par-three, 2nd hole.
Tour veteran, Laura Davies and defending champion Maria Hernandez also had a disappointing first round when they were two-over after the completion of 15 holes. Davies’ first round card has three bogeys and just one birdie so far. Hernandez, also trailing
behind, carded four bogeys and just two birdies in her lopsided round.
