Christel Boeljon leading the 2011 Turkish Airlines Ladies Open – Golf news
Christel Boeljon is leading the Turkish Airlines Open after posting a three under par 7 in the third round.
The player from Netherlands will be now heading into the final round of Ladies European Tour event with a one-stroke lead.
With the player leading at five under par overall, Florentyna Parker and Becky Brewerton are a stroke behind with four under. The first round leader, Stefania Croce and Linda Wessberg are all a shot further behind at three under par.
Boeljon started on front nine and really put the golf course on fire with four back-to-back birdies. Posting birdies from the 1st
hole to the fourth, Boeljon only missed a shot on the 12th hole when she made a bogey. Her third round 70 was the lowest in the tournament as the player made a 73 and 71 in the first and second rounds respectively.
When she was just a rookie two years ago, the player won the European Nations Cup in Spain. In her victory in Spain, Boeljon was paired with Marjet van der Graaff. Last year in the same tournament, Boeljon tied for second place.
The player’s caddie, Andy Dearden said that Boeljon has gained 20 yards in distance off the tee since switching to a TaylorMade Burner SuperFast driver recently. With increased accuracy, the young player is now confident about her way around the course’s
narrow tree-lined fairways.
Another player who posted a 70 was Parker who tied for sixth place in the 2010 event. The player made four birdies and one bogey and is on her way for her second victory.
The course record which was made by Iben Tinnings was matched by Anja Monke, Kylie Walker and Brewerton as they all made 5-under par 68 in the third round. Brewerton was especially excited about her performance as it gives her hope in attaining her third
victory.
“I just played really good golf. I hit a lot of iron shots in close to the hole. I got lucky a couple of times; I have hit quite a few slightly wayward tee shots over the last few days but I've always been able to find a shot or create a shot and when I've
been in the fairway I've hit it in close and the putts are rolling nicely,” said Brewerton.
