Question:

Christening gift for a baby boy?

My nephew is being christened next Sunday and I'm trying to decide what to get him. He's got both sets of grandparents and many aunts/uncles so I know he'll get the traditional gifts. Anyone have any new ideas that are appropriate but different?

  1. My son just got Christened a couple of weeks ago. He received quite a few baby bibles ( they have hard cover ones that have bright colours and would interest a baby) , baptism frames ( I really liked this as they were quite nice) a set that had rosary beads and a little cross and also a tiny baby cross necklace. The necklace was my favourite, not that he will wear it but its a keepsake and he will hopefully have it forever as his grandfather still has his!

Good luck with what ever you choose!

  2. A first Bible with his name on the cover would be nice.  I have seen others receive a savings bond in the name of the child.  Visit a Christian gifts or bookstore to get a better idea and selection.  They have some nice photo frames for Christening.  Maybe find a framed piece of art that has a scripture or something that they could hang in his room.  Below are a couple of sites with some really cute gifts.  The first one has a framed picture of the Ten Commandments and I love it.  Hope this helps!!

  3. I like these:

Both of my children got one for their baptism.  They are unique but useful and pretty at the same time.

  4. It depends if you are actually getting a gift for the baby himself, or for the parents. At any rate, keepsakes are a nice gesture, but they're not really usable or practical so I wouldn't recommend it unless you're talking about something like a hand-print picture kit. Jewelry is also thoughtful, but can be very dangerous.

It also depends on how old the baby is. At any age, something like a piggy bank can be a very creative gift. If you have a pottery-making place around where you live, you can paint one and they can glaze it and finish it for you, so it's very personable. I've included a couple of ideas for banks depending on what you can afford. Have fun shopping! And congratulations!
