AC Milan's goal-keeper, Christian Abbiati, has revealed that his save against Brescia couldn’t be counted as one of his most important ones. The shot-stopper received bundle of praises after making an outstanding block in the match against the relegation
battling Brescia which certainly helped Milan bag an all important three points.
Milan’s coach, Massimiliano Allegri, hailed the efforts of the 33-year-old Abbiati and was extremely delighted to come out on top, fighting against a resilient Brescia’s defence. The goal-keeper on the other hand was thankful towards the club officials and
fans who praised him, but insisted that his save against Perugia in 1999 was by far the best and most important one of his career.
Abbiati added, "It's good to know that people still remember my save against Perugia in 1999, because it was definitely more important than the one I made at Brescia, because it came in the last round, in the last minutes of the game.”
The Italy international won many hearts on Saturday when AC Milan were invited by Brescia in what was anticipated to be an easier tie for the Rossoneri. Milan’s blushes were certainly saved by some sensational reflexes of their keeper Abbiati who denied
Alessandro Diamanti which could have ended the game on level terms.
This game helped Milan earn three most important points which otherwise could have left the Serie A race wide open. The goal-keeper also spoke in support of his fellow team-mate Marco Amelia who is currently on-loan from another Serie A side Genoa, saying
that the keeper should not be blamed for Milan’s poor results when he was guarding the net.
Further commenting upon Amelia, the shot-stopper told, "It’s a just a bad coincidence that with Marco between the posts the team have won only once. Marco is a great goalkeeper, he’s always played at high levels and it’s normal that when someone plays less
he has a bit of a difficulty getting back his match fitness."
AC Milan will next be in action on Sunday, May 1 against Bologna. The Rossoneri are currently leading the Serie A flight with 74 points and need just four points to secure the title in their cabinet.
