http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 displayed great courage and determination to peg the Rossoneri back, and would have pulled off a miracle, had it not been for Milan’s shot stopper.
The Italian goal keeper pulled of some spectacular saves to prevent the Gunner’s from sealing a place in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League.
Arsenal scored three first-half goals to stun the Rossoneri, but failed to trouble the scorers in the second-half. The North London side were knocked out of the Champions League on a 3-4 aggregate score.
No one was expecting such a strong fight back from Arsene Wenger’s men, with pundits and commentators dismissing Arsenal’s chances owing to the inexperience in the side. However, the Gunners were clinical
in their approach, and manoeuvred with deadly accuracy in the attempt to reduce the deficit.
Abbiati is relieved to see his team advance to the next round, and is ruing the mistakes made by the Rossoneri.
While talking to the reporters, the Italian said:
“We almost managed to throw away a 4-0 lead, but fortunately we recovered in the second half after getting the approach totally wrong in the first. We tried to keep the ball, but probably opted not to attack
them enough by doing that.”
Abbiati believes that he could have done more after Arsenal pounced on the miscued clearance from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Thiago-Silva-c34903. However, the Italian thanked his lucky stars that he was able to pull off a save from Robin
Van Persie, stating:
“Thank goodness I managed to block van Persie’s shot, that’s all I can say.
The former Italian national goalkeeper believes that his side went into the match with ample preparation, with the intent of hitting the North London side on the break. However, the Rossoneri were not able
to comply diligently with that.
When questioned whether the lack of experience was the downfall of the Diavolo in the second-leg tie, the goalkeeper retorted by stating that it was not the case. He further went on to commend his team by
saying:
“Some of our players made much difference, as they have great character”
The veteran believes that they must never make the same mistakes again, and should work on rectifying the errors made against Arsenal.
