The AC Milan goalkeeper has expressed his delight after pulling off a spectacular reaction-save in Rossoneri’s 4-0 win over Arsenal in UEFA Champions League.
Christian Abbiati’s important save means that A.C Milan take a healthy 4-0 lead into the second-leg of the last 16 round of UEFA Champions League at Emirates Stadium next month.
“I celebrated like crazy after that save, because it was like a weight off my shoulders,” said Abbiati.
The veteran shot-stopper, who is recently going through a difficult period through injuries, insists that the save gave him a huge confidence boost.
“I was coming off an unlucky period full of injury problems. Making a save like that really fired me up.”
The fired-up Milan goalkeeper is hoping to carry the same momentum and energy into their next game against Cesena in the league. The Italian Champions will visit Stadio Dino Manuzzi on Sunday, 19 February.
Despite being favourites against the Seahorses, Abbiati does not want to give Daniele Arrigoni’s side any space or complacency to launch an upset.
“It won’t be easy, as Cesena is a good side who really strengthened over the January transfer window. Their artificial turf could cause some problems, but in any case we have to play the same way we did against Arsenal, by attacking
them from the first minute.”
With Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Mark Van Bommel out of the squad for Sunday, a substantial amount of threat has been taken out of the A.C Milan attack. However, Abbiati feels that the Italian giants have immense quality in their squad
to make up for the loss of big name players.
The Italian also urged his team to take one game at a time, and not to think about the important game against Juventus as yet. The Rossoneri will face Antonio Conte’s men next week in a tie which will have a major say in title
race.
Massimiliano Allegri’s men are currently second in the league table with just two points separating them from leaders, Juventus.
