New Aston villa signing http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Christian-Benteke-c9056 has played down hype surrounding his 7 million pound transfer from Belgian club Genk.
The striker was only one of three signings that Paul Lambert concluded on deadline day last week. The manager had publicly announced his intention of signing at least three more players to strengthen the Villa squad after witnessing a torrid start to the
campaign.
Villa lost the opening game of the season at Upton Park to West Ham United, and then followed that up with an embarrassing home defeat to an in-form http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Everton-c13019 side. Everton completely dismantled Villa in a 3-1 score line. Villa managed to score an amazing
goal courtesy of Karim EL-Ahmadi, but it was too little and too late.
The player himself had not expressed any delight over the goal, and had said that the team must improve all aspects of their game if they hoped to finish in the top half of the league.
The third game saw a better performance from the players. Aston Villa drew 1-1 with Newcastle away at the Sports Direct Arena, and had finally managed a point from their first three games.
They also won in the Capital One Cup game against Tranmere http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Paul-c29347 Lambert saw flashes of the creativity he had desired from his team. The manager still wished to add to his squad to increase the depth and host of options he has at his disposal.
Christian Benteke is one of the signings, but is rather unheard of, despite his 7 million pound price tag. His price did however generate some hype, but the player has demonstrated modesty and played down expectations.
“Christian Benteke? Never heard of him,” joked the 21-year old. “Seven million pounds is a lot of money for someone who is essentially an unknown quantity. I hope Paul Lambert knows what he’s doing, because from the outside looking in, this has the feel
of a panic buy.”
“Most people don’t really follow the Belgian league, and I guess I’m no exception. What will I bring to the side? Am I ready for the first team? Can I play alongside http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Darren-Bent-c10358? Your guess is as good as mine. I’m looking forward to showing everyone what
I can do, especially myself.”
