Christian Danner believes Michael Schumacher will race in 2013 – Formula 1 news
Former Formula 1 driver, Christian Danner believes that Michael Schumacher of Mercedes will race in 2013 as the veteran German driver has signed an agreement with his team for the next season.
Schumacher made his comeback with Mercedes back in 2010 after signing a three-year contract. Even though, his deal is going to expire at the end of this season and there are speculations that he may not take part in the coming season. However, Danner who
is now an F1 commentator sees his compatriot on the grid of the next year and thinks that the Brackley based team and the record championship holder have made their decision in this regard.
“I’m quite sure the decision has been taken now,” said the German television pundit.
Meanwhile, it will be interesting to note that Norbert Haug, the motor racing vice-president of Mercedes, has also hinted the team’s new agreement with the seven-time world champion.
“I doubt there will be an announcement at Spa,” said Haug.
Furthermore, the reports have stated that the legendary driver is looking for a new two-year deal with Mercedes as he wants to win more titles in his career ahead.
In addition, the 43-year old has also expressed his inclination towards racing in the upcoming seasons. Besides, he believes that the age doesn’t matter and asserted that although they are not fighting for the championship title this year, nonetheless, he
is looking forward to see what happens in the future.
“Age has nothing to do with it,” said Schumacher. “Anyway, at the moment it (the title) is not a topic as – unfortunately – we are no longer fighting for the championship. We’ll see what the future brings.”
At present, he is standing at twelfth place in the drivers’ championship with 29 points along with the Williams’ driver, Pastor Maldonado. Additionally, he is behind Kamui Kobayashi of Sauber and is ahead of Paul di Resta of Force India.
He secured third podium finish in the European Grand Prix after taking a start from 12th grid slot which is his best performance in the last two years. Let’s see what the forthcoming races bring for him.
