Christian Danner believes championship will be decided in season finale in Brazil – Formula 1 news
Former Formula 1 driver, Christian Danner believes that the 2012 Formula 1 Drivers’ Championship will be decided in the final round of the season in Brazil.
Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing is currently leading the drivers’ championship with 255 points. Moreover, he has performed exceptionally well in the season until now and has earned a lead of 10 points over his main rival, Fernando Alonso of Ferrari.
Danner said that although Vettel seems to be extremely strong, but he thinks that the veteran German driver will not be able to claim the title in the United States Grand Prix as both the top two contenders will secure competitive points at Circuit of The
Americas. Therefore, he said that the Brazilian GP will be the decider of the championship title.
“I think we will wait until Sao Paulo, no matter what happens in Austin, really,” Danner told RTL.
“If the race in Austin is fairly normal, with both of them reaching the finishing line and taking a lot of points, there will be no decision here. I think we can look forward to a nice season finale in Brazil,” said Danner.
On the other hand, Vettel’s teammate, Mark Webber has insisted that the defending champion must wrap up the title in the forthcoming race.
It will be important to mention that even though the 25-year-old has been considered as the toughest competitor in this year’s championship but there are few who believe that Alonso is the real champion as he has performed flawlessly.
Ex-F1 driver, Jacques Villeneuve has said that though Vettel is very fast and has shown some amazing performances so far, but he believes that the Spaniard has performed better as he has achieved great results even with an incompetent car.
“Seb is super quick but there is a difference with Fernando that emerges in the case of an unfavourable situation,” Villeneuve said. “Alonso remains calm, cool, and rational, while Vettel most times gets upset, angry, screams and flicks the middle finger.”
It will be thrilling to see how the two main rivals perform in this weekend’s race in USA.
