Christian Diener claims Boys 50m back-stroke gold: Day four – 3rd World Junior Championships
Christian Diener of Germany claimed the gold medal of Boys 50m back-stroke meet on day four of the 3rd World Junior Championships, organised by the Federation Internationale De Natation (FINA) on Friday, August 19, in Lima, Peru.
Diener won earned the title of the event, by submitting a top fastest time of 25.59 seconds. His effort was just 0.01 seconds away from levelling his own championship mark of 25.58 seconds, set by Diener in the semi-finals of the same event in the earlier
session. In addition, he was 1.55 seconds away from the world record of 24.04 seconds, made by Liam Tancock of Great Britain at the 2009 World Championships in Rome.
The German swimmer was chased by Jacob Pebley of United States, who was just 0.16 seconds slower than Diener and ended his swim in a second fastest time of 25.75 seconds for the silver medal. Pebley remained 0.03 seconds ahead of his strongest rival, Niccolo
Bonacchi of Italy, who acquired the podium for the bronze medal, by submitting a time of 25.78 seconds.
Moments later, Bonacchi’s team-member, Manuel Franco Cofrani appeared as the fourth fastest swimmer of the event, as he stayed 0.35 seconds slower than his team-member and reported a time of 26.13 seconds. Mateusz Wysoczynski of Poland was the fifth position
holder of the event, as he failed to overwhelm the effort of his former finisher, with a difference of 0.23 seconds and clocked a time of 26.35 seconds.
Alexander Theocharidis of Greece was the sixth best finisher of the event, as he ended his sprint in a time of 26.41 seconds. He was followed by Joshua Beaver of Australia, who remained 0.35 seconds behind Theocharidis and produced a time of 26.76 seconds.
Jack Conger of United States was the eighth position holder of the event, as he posted a time of 26.83 seconds.
Diener was very pleased with his title claiming effort and expressed that he will train hard in the future to continue performing well in forthcoming events.
