What criteria do you use to reject Allah or Zeus or Buddah----other than than your faith? Remember the islamics, buddists, hindus, shinto's all have as deep a faith in their own philosophcial/religious structure as you. You'd have no probelm with an atheist rejecting buddah, allah, zeus etc--you'd say that person examined the evidence and found there was insufficent evidence to support belief in those folks--it is the disbelief in the xtian god you take exception with because you are unwilling to apply the same criteria for disbelief you use on Buddah, Allah, Zeus etc to your own deity. Doesn't the intellectual dishonesty of this postion glare out at you?

  1. Allah and the Christian God are the same God, Allah is simply the Arabic word for God.

Buddha isn't a God, "buddha" refers to the state of "perfect enlightenment". Guatama Buddha was the founder of Buddhism, a person, not a God. An enlightened person, but still not a God.

Zues is the King of Gods in the Greek mythology, which is polytheistic. Christianity, Judaism, Islam are all monotheistic and if they believed in Zues they'd have to believe in 30 or so other Gods.

    Now for ya.

  2. expect copy pasted bible quotes.

  3. Your question involves a false alternatives fallacy.

Religion cannot be framed as a "true or false" question. Like other real-world issues, it must be approached as multiple choice.

People actually believe in the God of the main Abrahamic religions.

However, Greeks did not actually believe in Zeus or the other gods. Their poetry was a competition so the stories were always changing, with poets trying to out do each other. Eros went from a pre-Titan force to a childlike companion of Aphrodite.

Hesiod offers three different and contredictory creation accounts. Plato offers three as well in Timaeus and Critias.

  4. Religion has everything to do with faith. I don't think you should expect any answer that' s not based on this. It's not really an exact science. And I mean no offense. Now or in the ancient years all it's about faith. I don't really believe that Zeus was just mythology and nothing more, to the ancient greeks he was as real a god as the ones we believe nowadays. I can say this for sure since it happens to be greek, and I can also inform you that in today's Greece there is still a kind of religion that worships the 12 gods of Olympus. (Greek and Coptic Translator is quite right about the poetry stuff though). Anyway, to your answer. The only thing one can say is that any god is true for the one who believes in him, even if we talk for a piece of paper if one has put all of his trust in it. I'm not trying to minimize the importance of any religion, but it's good to remember that Christianity and the Islam are the descendants of Judaism. And that are also religions where God showed Himself to the people.

Anyway, I guess that what I mean to say it that the faith is the important thing, not the object that we put our faith on. But, then again, that is only my humble opinion.

    Good luck in you search.

  5. Hey, I worship the one true god, Hanuman the Hindu monkey god, so God and Zeus aren't real. Hanuman flings manure at all non-believers in him.

  6. I think it's a little apples oranges to compare Zeus to Allah and Buddha. I do believe in Allah and Buddha. But Zeus just fits into mythology for me. It's a personal thing - that's what faith is about.

  7. What criteria do you use to reject Santa Clause?

  8. Well, I know my God Jehovah is the only God, all the other were merely men or a figment of anothers imagination. My God shows himself to us, and it's not just coincidence. i know that for a fact, and if you read the bible you find truths in there that show us about the past present and future that is truely amazing that has happened in no other book, sure people look at me like i'm crazy and i've been cussed out afew times but hey, more rewards in heaven for me. God is good, when everything is wrong and the whole world is against you he is always there. feel free to IM me anytime.
