The Eredivisie giants are drawn in the Group D that also includes Real Madrid, Manchester City and Borussia Dortmund, but the Danish starlet has expressed optimism over his side’s chances of reaching the knock-out round.
Ajax Amsterdam midfielder, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Christian-Eriksen-c9074, has expressed optimism regarding his side’s chances of reaching the knock-out round of this year’s UEFA Champions League.
De Joden have been drawn in the Group D, which includes Real Madrid, Manchester City and Borussia Dortmund.
This pool is wildly regarded as the ‘Group of Death’, as it contains four champions from four of the top leagues in Europe.
However, the Danish wonder-kid has not expressed any disappointment over being drawn with three top clubs, and is looking forward to playing against some of the strongest sides in the Europe’s most prestigious club competition.
“It's very special, of course, to play in a group with four champions from four of the biggest leagues in Europe. It will be interesting to test ourselves against the others”, Eriksen was quoted as saying to the Danish media.
The four-time European champions have not managed to progress through to the Round of 16 of the Europe’s primary club competition since 2006, when the Amsterdammers finished second in the Group B that contained http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 FC, FC Thun
and Sparta Prague.
Although, the Amsterdammers’ chances of reaching the Round of 16 in this year’s Champions League seem too farfetched, Eriksen has still expressed confidence that his side can cause an upset and make progression to the next phase
of the competition this year.
“I believe that we have a chance [of reaching the knockout round]. We have caused upsets in the past, and we have to see if we can do it again. The Champions League means everything to Ajax - this is what we play for every year”,
the Danish international concluded.
Ajax have been unfortunate for the past couple of years for being drawn with the likes of Real Madrid, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-Lyonnais-c40130 and AC Milan. Although, they did manage to achieve good results in couple of games, they were still forced
to continue their European dream in the UEFA Europa League after the winter break.
