VfB Stuttgart midfielder Christian Gentner has lamented the red card given to Cristian Molinaro during the game against Bayern Munich.
Gentner was talking after Stuttgart lost 2-1 at home to the Bundesliga giants, Bayern Munich. Mercedes-Benz-Arena hosted the Reds on Sunday, December 11, with Bayern winning under controversial circumstances.
Gentner opened the scoring as early as the sixth minute for the home side. Mario Gomez brought the visitors level in just the 13th minute and made the score line 2-1 by scoring on the 57th minute mark.
Stuttgart defender, Cristian Molinaro, was given the marching orders on the half hour mark when the scores were tied at 1-1.
The referee’s decision to send off Molinaro was taken harshly by the Stuttgart officials, who later accused the referee of biasness throughout the game.
The officials also requested the German Football Federation to make note of the situation as the Swabians had to pay a huge cost for referee’s controversial decisions.
Meanwhile, the Stuttgart midfielder lamented Molinaro’s loss during the first half, which, according to him, was a big reason behind his team’s loss on Sunday.
The attacker reckoned that the officials could have handled the situation smartly and also criticised Bayern winger, Arjen Robben, for play acting on Molinaro’s red.
While talking to reporters after Sunday’s game, the midfielder further enthused:
"Who knows how it would have ended had we played 11 against 11. Of course Bayern had more control of the game following the red card. There is no doubt that Bayern were the better team - because they had a man extra."
Bayern manager, Jupp Heynckes, opposed what Gentner had to say in response to Sunday’s defeat at home. He told that Bayern dominated most part of the game and easily deserved to win.
He also reckoned that the officials were not at all biased and had a perfect game. Heynckes believed that Molinaro’s tackle was a dangerous one and rightly received a second yellow.
"There are still 18 games to play. The crucial thing was to come here today and win, which you can never take for granted in Stuttgart. Especially towards the end, you could see some of my players beginning to look drained.” He concluded.
