http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Lorient-c39153 registered a hard-fought win over Les Pitchouns on Sunday at the expense of Alain Casanova’s side, and the coach, Christian Gourcuff is pleased with the performance of his players.
While talking to reporters after the match, the 57-year-old stated that it was an impressive performance from his side and the players showed great desire to get a positive result. Toulouse made life difficult for Lorient on the pitch and Le FCL did well
to cope with the threat.
The Frenchman added that it was a tough match and the 1-0 scoreline tells the story. Lorient dominated in the first half but Toulouse came back strong after the interval, but Les Merlus did well to hold onto the lead.
"We stifled Toulouse for much of the first half. The second half was more difficult because of the fatigue and our lack of coherence.”
Gourcuff feels that Lorient should have scored another goal to avoid such a tense end to the match, but credit to Toulouse for making it impossible for the hosts to strike again.
“We should have scored a second goal, which would have allowed us to avoid a tense end to the game, but we just didn't have the legs.”
Praising his players, the coach said that everyone played superbly on Sunday especially the midfielders, who did really well and won back the possession several times.
“(http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wesley-c36794) Lautoa and (Alaixys) Romao were superb for us, winning the ball back in midfield.”
After the win, Christian Gourcuff wants to carry on from here and is of the view that Lorient FC can cause problems to any team in the league this season.
“We need to maintain the same spirit that we showed here because we can cause problems to any team in Ligue 1 when we win the ball back like that and show that level of intensity.”
Les Merlus will take on http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-de-Marseille-c40127 in their next Ligue 1 game.
