The 57-year-old has praised Les Merlus after Le FCL cruised to an impressive 3-0 win over http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-de-Marseille-c40127 at Stade Velodrome at the weekend
The club from North-Western http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899 thrashed the Rhone giants in the Ligue 1, and coach, Christian Gourcuff is pleased with the result that has pushed his side to 8th in the league with 24 points on the table at the end of Week 16.
Les Merlus were helped when Marseille were reduced to 10 men and the visitors took that advantage to full use. Talking to reporters, the Frenchman said that playing with an extra man always helps and Lorient took full advantage of the situation.
Praising his players, the boss said that Le FCL played with great attitude and they were very disciplined out there on the pitch. Praising Jérémie Aliadière in particular, Gourcuff said that the forward was exceptional on Sunday and he put in an eye catching
performance at Stade Velodrome.
"It's easier to play with 11 against ten, and we handled our numerical advantage well. The team was disciplined and I thought Jérémie Aliadière was exceptional.”
Talking about the match, Gourcuff said that Elie Baup’s side tried to take advantage of the home crowd but Lorient did well to take control of the game. The boss added that the players look rusty at times but they did well to get a positive result in the
end.
“They used the wind at their backs to put us under a lot of pressure at the start of the game but we were able to throw them off though, even if our passing was not always precise.”
The 57-year-old said that in terms of organisation on the pitch, Lorient FC was phenomenal and they totally dominated throughout the match. The boss added that three points against a team like Les Phoceens and away from home, is a great result and Lorient
need to carry on from here.
“It was above all in terms of our organisation that we were perfect. They didn't believe they could get back into it in the final 15 minutes. We'll take our points where we can get them.”
