The French tactician held Giuly in high regards as his goal helped FC Lorient in cruising past the Round of 32 of the Coupe de France. Gourcuff also had words of praise for Les Merlus, as they showed real character in the fixture against CS Sedan

stating that the attacking midfielder scored an extraordinary goal to ensure their progress in the tournament.
The 57-year-old feels that Les Merlus weren’t able to thoroughly dominate the game as they should have. The coach believes that the team lacked the spark, and seemed lazy in front of the goal, due to which they were unable to poise serious threat to the
opposition defence in the first half. Gourcuff stated:
"We were not completely in control at the end, but our first-half showing was still relatively satisfying, even if we just lacked the acceleration needed to get the opening goal. We completely dominated possession. It was a much better game in the second
half, with chances at both ends.”
The Frenchman held special praise for his compatriot whose breath-taking goal proved to be the difference between the two sides. The coach believes that the veteran have proved to be a vital member of the squad, hoping that the former Paris Saint-Germain

“Ludo (Giuly) scored an extraordinary goal and showed that he can bring a lot to the team in the second half of the season.”
Gourcuff also showed true sportsmanship as he acknowledged Sedan’s good performance, as they defended resolutely. However, at the same time the coach insisted that the best team won, just as they deserved to. While expressing his opinion, he said:
“Sedan had chances too in the final quarter of an hour. We were unable to get the second goal that would have given us a bit of breathing space, but we deserve to go through and this will give us a lift.”
