Question:

Christian Homeschooling family considering moving to Sierra Nevada foothills - Cool, CA from Santa Cruz, CA?

My husband and I currently live in Santa Cruz. We have 6 children ranging from 12 yrs. to 10 months and we have always homeschooled them. We are considering and praying about moving to the Sierra Foothills, specifically Cool, and would really like to get to know that area better before we make this life changing decision.

I was wondering if anyone could give us an idea of how conservative the people of that area of California are, how many large families there are (are they common or uncommon), and how many homeschooling families there are? Does anyone know of any good churches they would recommend that would have conservative people, large families, and/or homeschoolers attending?

Thanks!

  1. Well, The Old Schoolhouse Magazine (for HS'ers) is based from there.  That's where the owners, Paul & Gina Juarez, live.

I would see if there are any Yahoo Groups for HS'ers in the area you want to move to.  I did that when my DH was job searching.  Any time the recruiter had a new spot for him to interview, I'd join the Yahoo Group in the area and get a feel for the HS'ing community.  I was able to mark a few off the list just due to the reception I rec'd from a few of them (b/c we HS one and have the other child in PS).
