Christian Horner: Mark Webber keen to extend his career with Red Bull – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing team principal Christian Horner has said that their driver Mark Webber has recently made it clear that he wants to drive with the team in 2012.
Before the start of the 2011 season, Red Bull announced that Webber’s performance in the season will decide whether he stays with them or not.
Webber recently told the Red Bull team that he was keen to extend his Formula 1 career with the side beyond the ongoing 2011 Formula 1 season.
The Red Bull team principal said that at the end of this season they will have to sit down to discuss the Australian’s future with the team.
Horner admitted that Webber is performing well in the ongoing season despite having several issues in his car since the start of the season.
He discussed Webber’s performance in the season and added, “We have only completed six grands prix out of probably 19, so probably sometime a little bit later in the summer we will sit down and discuss next year. Mark has made it clear that he wants to drive
next year, and conversations with Mark tend to be quite straightforward.”
Horner also admitted that the 34-year-old driver has a good understanding of the new Pirelli tyres compared to his teammate Sebastian Vettel. He added that he has applied a positive tyres’ strategy in the season so far.
He further added that Webber is moving in the right direction from the start of the season and scored satisfactory points for the team in the first six rounds of the season.
Horner went on to mention, “But he is still a fierce competitor and he is still pushing very, very hard - as we saw in Barcelona a few weeks ago where he achieved his first pole position.”
The team declared that they are happy and satisfied with Webber’s performance in ongoing season. However, let’s see if the Australian manages to grab a seat with the side in the next season.
