Christian Horner: Red Bull Racing have not yet signed latest RRA suggestions – Formula 1 news
Christian Horner, the team principal of Red Bull Racing has clarified the reasons for not signing off the letter regarding the latest suggestions for the Resource Restriction Agreement (RRA) which included FIA policing.
It has been reported that FIA’s letter concerning policing of RRA and other prudent measures to limit the costs, has been signed by ten teams in F1 so far. However, Red Bull and Toro Rosso have not signed off the letter until now.
Additionally, Horner has emphasized that they do not want to reduce their costs. Nevertheless, they feel that different arrangements within the teams signify the difficulty in regulating the personnel and working hours.
“What I would like to make clear is Red Bull is fully behind cost control in Formula One. Whether the RRA is the right route to achieve that is what we question. I believe that letter, from what I read, requested for the FIA to police the RRA, which in our
opinion would be the wrong route. We believe whole-heartedly in controlling costs in Formula One and not frivolous spending. But there are better ways of doing that and containing that through the sporting and technical regulations as opposed to a resource
restriction that relies on equivalence and apportionment of time and personnel,” said Horner.
Furthermore, Horner discharged the impression that his team is resistant to sign off the letter over RRA because they are hiding something.
In addition, he said that they are structured in a quite different manner as a racing team and a separate entity. He also said that Formula One Teams’ Association (FOTA) was initially formed with clear set of rules and regulations involving the restrictions
in staff, gearboxes, number of engines which actually saved costs and can be considered as the important issues which should be focused to avoid any problems rather than to allocate everything with uniformity.
Besides, he said that the recent reforms will be harder to implement for the teams which are the subsidiaries of some other organizations. Therefore, he said that they will favour the substantial plus measureable items and will try their best to keep everything
simple.
