Christian Horner: Red Bull Racing more confident after 1-2 finish at Spa – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing team’s Christian Horner has recently stated that the team is now more confident for the upcoming Italian Grand Prix after scoring a 1-2 finish at the Belgian Grand Prix which took place this past weekend at Spa-Francorchamps.
“We know that Monza has always, certainly in recent years, been our weakest circuit. We know Ferrari will be strong there, as they historically are. McLaren and Mercedes will be strong there,” he said.
The championship leaders were going through a rough patch since the past 3 races of the season as they were unable to secure a single victory and it seemed that McLaren and Ferrari were much faster than them in terms of pace.
The Belgian Grand Prix however was a display of dominance for RBR as they were way ahead of their rivals in terms of pace and it was an easy race for them despite the fact that they went through some major tyre issues in the beginning.
“But this result gives us a lot of confidence and we will be going to Monza determined to try and better our previous best result, which is a fourth place there. Again, a different challenge to Spa, but with the performance we have seen in the first and
third sector here, hopefully it's signs of a good omen for Monza,” said Horner.
RBR are now way ahead of its rivals in the drivers’ and constructors’ championships and now it seems that they are uncatchable. The championship is comfortably in their hands and the only way their rivals can defeat them now is to “pull off some miracles”
and expect the reigning world champions to perform inconsistently which seems unlikely.
There are just 7 races left in the 2011 Formula 1 season and by the looks of it, RBR are in a very comfortable position for the upcoming races while McLaren and Ferrari are struggling immensely as a result of which we can expect a handful of risks from their
side at the upcoming races.
