Christian Horner: Sebastian Vettel has proved his critics wrong once again – Formula 1 news
According to the team principal of Red Bull Racing team Christian Horner, the reigning world champion Sebastian Vettel has proved his critics wrong once again as he made an extraordinary overtake on the Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso during this past weekend’s
Italian Grand Prix.
“It's not in his psyche to do that. When you start driving for the percentages like that, that's when you start to make mistakes. His approach will be as consistent as it has been, with the target of trying to win each race, but if second is the best result
we can achieve on the day, or third or fourth, that's what we'll take,” he said.
Vettel was being criticised for his single-direction driving skills as his main strategy at each race is to secure the pole position before securing the race win. Without it, he faces a lot of difficulty unlike most of the champions the sport has witnessed
in its history.
Fernando Alonso, Ayrton Senna, Alain Prost, Michael Schumacher, Lewis Hamilton and Mika Hakkinen to name a few were all reliant on their race pace rather than qualifying pace while Vettel relies on qualifying more as he does not attempt many overtakes safely
during the races.
In 2011 so far, he has been extraordinary though as he has not retired out of a single race and is currently dominating the season because of his driving skills.
He made an exceptional overtake over Alonso who is definitely one of the most difficult drivers to catch up with and Horner claims that the overtake proved that the young German can do anything.
“Anybody who doubted whether he can overtake, he demonstrated very clearly he can with a very brave move on Alonso, with two wheels on the grass. He made it stick. He has evolved as a driver and a young man, and it's easy to forget he is only just 24,” said
Horner.
Red Bull Racing team has done a phenomenal job this year and one has to admit that they are definitely becoming a major threat to the top running teams in the long run.
