Christian Horner: Sebastian Vettel’s run impressive whereas Mark Webber disappointing – Formula 1
Red Bull team principal Christian Horner has said that Sebastian Vettel was impressive in the Spanish Grand Prix of the 2011 Formula 1 season, especially in his last stint.
Horner added that the race result was still not satisfactory because Mark Webber failed to grab a podium place when he had it in the middle part of the race.
Vettel took his fourth win of the 2011 season in the Spanish Grand Prix. However, Horner stated that they expected more from both their drivers.
“Yes - we could have won five out of five. It’s not a complete result today because we didn’t have Mark (Webber) up there on the podium as well,” commented Horner.
He added that Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso surprised him with his superb start after which Webber was mainly playing catch up. Horner added that Lewis Hamilton was expected to do something like this but in the end, both Red Bull cars lost the first stint advantage.
Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel was made to pit in the early stages of the race after which Alonso did the same and Webber was once again in the top three. Alonso did not have the speed in the later part of the race so Webber was eyeing a podium only before
his tyres wore out and Jenson Button took over.
Talking about the tyre strategy in the Spanish race, Horner said, “We started on the options, but at the start it was not clear that we would pit four times. We had to be very flexible, and at one stage we were even considering five stops. We pitted very
early and probably that was what really made our result today.”
So far, Red Bull team has been able to lead both championship tables in the 2011 season but the competition is getting tough race by race.
The next race will be contested in Monaco on May 29, 2011 and Red Bull will go there with their noses in front since Webber won the race in the 2010 season.
