Christian Horner: This might not be Mark Webber’s last year with Red Bull Racing – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing driver Mark Webber had a disappointing end to an outstanding 2010 Formula 1 season as the Aussie was unable to secure the drivers’ title.
Mark claims that the team prefers Sebastian Vettel more than him since the 2010 champion is much younger than him. The two Red Bull drivers had a pretty good relationship with each other until the incident at the Turkish Grand Prix changed everything. Sebastian
Vettel tried to take the lead from his teammate Mark Webber who was running in first place during the Turkish Grand Prix but failed to execute the overtaking manoeuvre which resulted into a crash and as a result, Mark was unable to secure the win while Sebastian
had to retire from the race.
Since then, the team and Mark’s relations started to deteriorate and it was believed that Webber will not be able to stay in the team for too long. However, Red Bull Racing team boss Christian Horner recently revealed that Mark Webber might stay with the
team even after the 2011 Formula 1 season comes to an end.
This means that he might not leave the team after the upcoming season comes to an end. Mark Webber has signed a one-year contract with the team and it is expected to come to an end by the end of this year’s Formula 1 season.
“Mark isn't approaching this year like this is his final year. We both agreed to keep his contract on a yearly basis at this stage in his career because it's important for us to see he's got the speed, motivation, hunger and commitment,” Christian told the
media.
Other than that, it was also revealed that both Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel have now buried the hatchet and they are willing to work together even if they have to after the 2011 Formula 1 season.
“All of those things look undiminished at the moment, if anything, burning brighter than ever. So we'll see how this season develops and obviously as we head towards the latter part of the summer then we'll start to talk about the following season,” he added.
Christian stated that Mark Webber is focused about the 2011 Formula 1 season and he hopes to produce even better results this time.
