Christian Horner admits that the 2013 Red Bull car RB9 is behind schedule – Formula 1 news
Red Bull team principal, Christian Horner, has admitted that the new car for 2013 F1 season is behind schedule in its development.
The reason for the delay is the fact that while all other teams were working on the development of their new car towards the end of this past season, Red Bull was busy preparing their car so that they could win the championship and that they did. However,
Red Bull Racing’s chief technical officer, Adrian Newey is now a bit late coming up with the development of the RB9.
“2012 was the hardest season I’ve ever been involved in,” Newey said. “In 2010 we had a fast car, maybe not totally reliable, but very good. Last year the car was good and reliable. This year we sometimes had a very good car and sometimes had a reliable
car, and we didn’t always understand it, which initially was frustrating. The biggest change was the exhaust system which we had developed for two years and suddenly we had to start from scratch.”
Red Bull racing has been winning the constructors’ and the drivers’ championship for last three seasons and the genius behind all three cars has been Newey. This season, the team secured the constructors’ title after the penultimate United States Grand Prix
in Austin.
Newey said that the season has been amazing and it is a great tribute for the whole team to have scored a hat trick with the titles. He added that it shows they have been consistent with the development of their car and their performance. He also appreciated
the hard work of all the people working on the car at the team’s factory in Milton Keynes.
Newey has worked with Williams F1 and McLaren in the past winning championships with both teams. His cars have credited him to nine constructors’ titles out of which five are with Williams, one with McLaren and the remaining three with Red Bull.
Former McLaren driver, Lewis Hamilton, commented that Newey is certainly a genius as he could not have matched the pace of this year’s RB8 even if he was giving his 200 percent.
