Christian Horner and Eric Boullier criticise FIA for Bahrain Grand Prix fiasco – Formula 1 news
Formula 1 team principals are criticising the sport’s authorities and officials over the rescheduling of the Bahrain Grand Prix in the 2011 calendar.
Red Bull’s Christian Horner and Renault’s Eric Boullier, in their separate comments said that Bahrain was handled unprofessionally and by doing this, the image of Formula 1 has been compromised.
Right after one week of the World Motor Sport Council decision to reinstate the Bahrain Grand Prix, Formula 1 teams have voiced against it.
Boullier stated that the Bahrain issue could have been handled differently to save the name of Formula 1.
“Obviously it is never good when you get such reactions when things like this happen. F1 is a non-political sport. We cannot do whatever we want, because there are issues like this. We need to be a little bit more cautious,” stated Boullier.
He further added that he is new to the Formula 1 arena but is doing his best to deal with the issue in the best possible manner.
On the other hand, Horner added that, “The situation with Bahrain is becoming fairly clear. At the end of the day we are just a racing team that signs up to compete in the championship, and obviously we rely on the governing body and the commercial rights
holder to make the right decisions for the sport and the teams.”
The Formula One Teams Association wrote to Jean Todt in which the teams clearly stated their doubts going to Bahrain.
Todt has already taken notice of the situation and has called Formula 1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone to reschedule the 2011 Formula 1 calendar.
Horner however, added that the Bahrain circuit was a great one to race on but the safety situation in the country was poor and 20 races in a season will be unbearable for the teams.
The decision on Bahrain is expected to change once again after a strong reaction from the teams. It will be interesting to see how the WMSC reacts to Formula 1 teams concerns.
