Christian Horner believes 2010 was the “healthiest” year in the history of Formula 1
Red Bull scored one of the most astonishing title runs this season after the team secured both, the drivers and constructors’ titles in the last two races. Sebastian Vettel won the final race to secure the drivers’ title even though he was not in the most
comfortable situation for the title, statistically.
With 4 active competitors for the drivers’ title at the grand finale at the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi, Red Bull was able to snatch the lead from Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso and as a result, Sebastian Vettel became the youngest Formula 1 champion
in the history of the sport.
Christian Horner believes that the 2010 Formula 1 season was the healthiest Formula 1 season the sport has ever witnessed.
The team celebrated its double titles at Formula 1’s prize distribution ceremony that took place in Monaco. Red Bull was constantly being challenged by Ferrari and McLaren throughout the season and Christian Horner is aware that the team will face even a
more challenging situation in 2011 as Mercedes is also expected to perform up to the mark next year.
“It's a halcyon period for Formula One with the quality of drivers and the strength and depth there is in the sport at the moment and to have four drivers going to the last grand prix still in with a shout of winning the championship was phenomenal and I
think that will continue into 2011,” said Horner.
However, since team orders are now going to be legal in 2011, it is feared that some of the teams might use this rule negatively and prefer one of their drivers over the other and evolve around him. That would be unjust for the other driver and that way;
it is easier to win titles.
“We chose to give both our drivers absolute equality and a fair chance at it and it's not to say one approach is wrong and the other is right it's just the way we decided to approach the championship and ultimately the guy that's done the best job over the
course of the season has come out on top and I'm just delighted that it was a Red Bull driver and Sebastian Vettel,” said Christian.
Sebastian Vettel is just 23 years old and since he became the youngest champion in the history of the sport this year, Christian believes that this was just the beginning of his career and there is more to come from where that came from.
