Christian Horner believes Red Bull can catch Fernando Alonso – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing team principal, Christian Horner believes that they have got the potential to catch up the leading driver, Fernando Alonso of Ferrari in the forthcoming races.
Alonso has a superb lead over the Red Bull pair of drivers, Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel and he is at the top of the drivers’ standings with 164. Moreover, he has been considered as the most talented driver in the field.
Additionally, he has proven himself worthy to be called as the outright favourite for this year’s championship title as he has performed terrifically well behind the wheel of F2012 which is not competent enough as compared to the teams in the front.
However, Horner has said that there are still a lot of races left in the championship fight and they are very much confident that they will be able to narrow down the gap to the Spaniard in the remaining grands prix.
"I think he's driven fantastically well," Horner said. "He's grasped his opportunities with both hands and he's really punched above his weight on occasion. Obviously the wet races he's excelled at as well, but there's still a long way to go; 40 points sounds
a lot but with 25 for a win and so many competitive drivers that could get between him and winning a race I really think that this championship has still got a long way to go.”
Furthermore, he said that he is very delighted with his team’s performance in the first half of the season while he asserted that they are trying their best to keep on progressing in the races ahead so as to defend their championship title.
“But don't take anything for granted, and obviously the main objective is to get both drivers right up there with Fernando,” he added.
In addition, he said that they are looking forward to perform well in the qualifying of the Belgian GP to secure a higher grid slot for the race.
Besides, he said that Vettel has not been completely satisfied with the car during the qualifying in this year as compared to the preceding season. Therefore, he insisted that their main concern is to make the defending champion feel comfortable in the qualifying
of the approaching races.
