Christian Horner believes Red Bull is doing well ahead of the 2012 season – Formula 1 news
Christian Horner believes that Red Bull have been fantastic so far but there is still work to be done.
He said that the remaining two tests will be important for the team as it prepares to be ready for the upcoming season. Red Bull did not have the best of results at the first pre-season test. There were some delays and technical difficulties with the car
but still managed to complete 297 laps.
“It's been a very busy period for the whole team,” Horner said. “Working flat out and coming out of last year's championship that obviously didn't conclude until the Brazilian Grand Prix which was right at the end of November. So it's a very short off season
in which time you've got to design, manufacture and produce a new car to new regulations. The team's done tremendously well; we had a positive first test in Jerez, still plenty to do before the first race in Melbourne but we're satisfied with the start that
we've had.”
Red Bull’s technical director Adrian Newey also said that the car is on the right track and just needs a little more tweaking. Yet he was wary of Mercedes as he believes they have not unveiled their 2012 challenger as a strategy so that they can conceal
an innovation.
It shows that Red Bull might be feeling a bit insecure without the off-throttle blown diffuser that has been banned by the FIA for the 2012 season. The innovation led Red Bull to two back-to-back world titles.
Horner though thinks that the team is going to be just as strong as in the previous year, he said that it is tricky to be drawn in by the timesheets. There is already very limited amount of track time available so the need of the hour is to stick to the
programme and not be bothered about what other teams are doing. However, he did admit that having only three pre-season tests did add to the pressure.
He said the true picture of where everyone stands will be clearer once the cars assimilate in Melbourne on March 18, 2012 when the season opens.
