Christian Horner believes ‘development’ is key for success in 2012 Formula 1 season – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing team principal, Christian Horner says that to make development in the cars as quickly as possible will be the key for the team’s success in the 2012 Formula 1 Championship.
The defending champions could not be able to claim the victory in the first Grand Prix at Albert Park in Melbourne, Australia this Sunday and finished at second and fourth position with their drivers, Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber.
Moreover, McLaren’s driver, Jenson Button won the race while his teammate, Lewis Hamilton secured third position.
There had been many inspiring performances in the season opener by the teams which include Sauber, Lotus and Williams as they showed notable pace at times during the race.
Furthermore, Horner stated that he was expecting to notice a comparative change in pace, depending upon the nature of track in the next races.
“We saw it last year where there were swings and roundabouts - with some circuits suiting different cars and different characteristics,” Horner is quoted by Sky Sports. “So I think there are circuits that will affect performance, but I think the teams are
very closely matched at this point. As always, though, it will be a development race between now and the end of the season. Whoever gets the most performance from the car quick enough will see a gain from that.”
In addition, he said that he hoped for his team to give a stronger performance in the second race at Sepang International Circuit, Malaysia while he expressed that the track of the first race complemented McLaren well compared to them.
Besides, Vettel who had been considered as the out-and-out favourite for the championship warned the rival team that they had a ‘master plan’ after he said that they would try their best to search for more potential in the car for the next races.
Moreover, Horner said that McLaren won because they did not perform well in the first GP. He also said that they could have performed better and they would prove it in the race ahead.
“I think we underperformed rather than McLaren being overly strong and that is the story,” said Horner.
