Christian Horner calls Alonso’s expected throne ‘frustrating’
The Red Bull Racing team Principal Christian Horner believes if Fernando Alonso bags this year’s Championship it would be very "frustrating" for the other teams.
He very vividly added that his championship chances only came up after Ferrari's "team orders" in Germany and this is a very poor thing for other teams that kept following the FIA rules and have let both their drivers race equally.
Right from the start of the season, Horner has stressed on the fact that both the team drivers, Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel have equal backing and support from the team and that they would not follow any team orders. He has kept his words despite of the fact that the team has faced a lot of issues within both its drivers during the mid season.
Even at the moment, when Webber has a far better chance of winning the title as compared to the other driver Sebastian Vettel, the team has once again rejected to give orders to the driver. Webber presently stands at 3rd place with his 220 points while Vettel holds 4th place with only 206 points under his belt.
On the other hand, Ferrari has followed team orders very openly as Felipe Massa was asked in a coded message to get off Alonso’s way in Germany, when the team was heading for a 1-2 finish with Massa on the lead.
Though this act was followed by a $US100, 000 ($A101, 300) penalty for Ferrari yet no points were taken off from Massa or Alonso. Many of the other teams think that this was not a just decision as the extra seven points of Alonso should have been plucked off.
Moreover, only last week the former FIA President, Max Mosley stated that if Alonso wins the title with a lead of 7 points or less it would be ‘devalue’ the championship.
While talking to the media earlier Horner said, "It would be frustrating because we've obviously worked under the auspices that team orders have been illegal. The FIA made the ruling that they did, that's it, it's clear for all. We've just got to get on with it and try and do our talking on the circuit."
While talking about the next two races of the season for his team, the team principal said, "Both drivers still have a good chance, particularly Mark, to lift the big trophy at the end of the year… There's a big determination, both within the team and with both drivers, to really finish off what has been a strong season for us so far."
