Christian Horner considers Kimi Raikkonen a major threat – Formula 1 news
Red Bull Racing team principal, Christian Horner considers Kimi Raikkonen of Lotus a major threat in the 2012 Formula 1 World Championship.
Horner said that the Enstone based team has surely got one of the most competent cars. Moreover, he said that they have the perfect blend of talented and experienced pair of drivers while he admired Raikkonen for his competitiveness in the season until now.
“Their car has been quick all year, and they have two good drivers, so Kimi is a factor in the Drivers' Championship,” he said.
The Finnish driver has performed remarkably well in the first half of the current season and has secured five podium finishes. Furthermore, he is standing at fifth place in the drivers’ rankings with 116 points. Besides, he is just one point behind Lewis
Hamilton of McLaren who won the Hungarian GP last week.
Therefore, Horner said that they cannot underestimate the potential of the Finn and they really need to push very hard from now on in order to maintain their lead in the constructors’ championship.
“He is only one point behind Lewis, so it would be foolish to underestimate any of our rivals at the moment and there is still a long way to go,” he added.
It will be interesting to mention that the team principal of Ferrari, Stefano Domenicali has also deemed Raikkonen as a potential candidate and a main opponent in this season’s championship battle.
In addition, he said that the British team has not been able to able to explore their true potential until now as they can achieve more if they improve their qualifying pace.
"I was not surprised by Kimi because I have always thought Kimi is a very good driver and a World Champion which you don't do unless you have something special," said Domenicali. “I think that Lotus didn't collect the points that they were able to collect.”
Additionally, he admired the tyre management of Lotus in the first 11 races and asserted that they will have a strong tussle with them in the forthcoming races.
It will be immensely thrilling to see how all the teams show up after the summer break.
