Christian Horner disappointed by Mark Webber’s secret injury
The Red Bull team Principal, Christian Horner is once again upset by the attitude of his team driver, Mark Webber. The Austrian has felta lot of "disappointment and frustration" over Webber’s secret fractured shoulder.
The Australian driver disclosed in a new official book published earlier this week that he kept the news of his fractured shoulder hidden from his team. Webber also reported that he has used several injections to fight the immense
pain he was going through. While disclosing the injury, the 34-year -old said that he was terribly hurt during a mountain bike riding just ahead of the Japanese Grand Prix, held in October.
As the news was revealed, the Red Bull team boss told the press expressing a lot of “disappointment and frustration." He had heard of the injury only this Monday, and that too through journalists that referred to the book that
explained how the driver kept striving despite the pain he was going through during the last three rounds.
While talking to the media, Horner explained, "I didn't even know about the book, let alone the shoulder. It is obviously disappointing that Mark said nothing. It was an injury that did not appear to have any effect on his performance
but all the same it would have been nice to know about it."
The statements in the book further show that the FIA doctor, Gary Hartstein and Webber's trainer Roger Cleary were aware of the incident but were asked to stay silent.
Webber also met a similar mountain bike crash just before the start of the 2009 season, when he was left with a broken leg and shoulder. When asked about the two incidents, Horner only stated that a ‘34-year-old should stay off
two wheels’.
"Our drivers have an obligation to make sure they are fit. It seems bikes don't agree with Mark so maybe it would be better if he stayed away from them," the youngest team principal on the grid concluded saying.
However, after saying all this he added that Webber was a great driver, but there is a lot more he needs to take care of. Horner talked to the media at the British Racing Drivers' Club awards distribution in London last night where
he collected the ‘Gold Star’ on behalf of Mark Webber.
