Christian Horner of Red Bull expects close race to the constructors’ championship – Formula 1 news
Christian Horner, principal of Red Bull Racing believes that it would be a close competition to the championship title in the remainder of the season.
He expressed his views after the convincing performance of team Lotus at the Hungaroring Grand Prix.
The team principal said currently Red Bull is leading the constructors’ championship with a margin of 53 points and the drivers, Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel are holding second and third places in the drivers’ championship. However, he said that still
there are a lot of points available and it will be a close competition to the championship.
Horner said, “We go into the summer break 53 points in the lead in the constructors' championship, and our drivers are second and third in the drivers' championship. There are 225 points still available, with nine races to go, and it is going to be full-on.”
Furthermore, he said that the summer break is approaching in Formula 1 and they have plans to prepare for the remaining three months of the season.
He said, “So we will use this week before the [enforced summer] shut down to good effect. Then, it is a good opportunity for everybody in the company to recharge their batteries before a manic three months.”
Understanding the challenging situation at Hungaroring, Horner said that Sebastian Vettel was hindered by Jenson Button. He added that Red Bull were quick during the race but they suffered because Vettel was unable to go to the leading position in the race.
Furthermore, he said that as soon as he got chance to get some room on the circuit the German driver was fast and this was encouraging.
Horner added that they have struggled with their selection of hard compound tyres but they are unable to understand why because they looked very strong with these tyres a year ago.
Furthermore, he said that they have the data which they will go through to understand the areas where they need more work to get improved performances in the upcoming grands prix.
He added that the grands prix lined up are not similar to the Grand Prix at Budapest and he hoped for a change of luck.
